Poems

For years to come

Somewhere between the dangling ear loops and kajal that you put on
I lost my senses,
Mesmerized beneath the arching lips and
the smile you flaunt,
I lost my voice.
Speechless and spellbound I have been gazing at your radiance for days now,
springs have passed and the leaves have changed colours.
The trees have bore generations of the same magenta flowers
and yet, I still can’t tell myself
what is it that I am doing here with you.

Sometime between the way you look at me and the way you whisper words in my face,
my heart skipped a beat.
Again and again as though
an off tuned percussion going on in my chest
thumping away all the emotions.
Holding strong my weak knees, I have been listening to you for days now,
minutes have turned into hours and more.
The butterflies still remain and they are stronger than ever,
every time my hands find your’s and lock the fingers together.
There’s only so many sunsets we will see together,
because we both are too busy wrapped up around each other
to find the time for a sunrise,
but even then,
every burning room is a chance to taste your lips and
I’ve tasted life in those lips.

So next time when you choose to drape yourself
with a saree and flaunt your curves,
remember that there’s a jaw which will always be dropping,
a heart which will always beat faster,
a voice which will choke
and some words which will take a pause
to stop and take in your presence in my life.
Like the warm light through my curtains on a sunny
afternoon, I will bask on your love,
today, tomorrow and for years to come.
